A New Place for All My Stuff

I’m not sure how long Flavors.me has been around so I may be really late to the party but I recently came across the site and became very interested in it.

For those of you who don’t know what Flavors.me is, at it’s simplest, it is a splash page with links to all of the “stuff” you do online. If you’re on Facebook, it shows your status updates. If you’re on Twitter, it shows that feed as well. It is basically an aggregator or RSS reader that shows everything “you.” With everyone having so many different websites they are associated with, Flavors.me offers a way to lump it all together so a viewer can catch everything you’re doing all in one place.

As a web designer, I’ve never really aspired to have a service like that because my own website can provide that information to people. Why would I want to waste my time developing another page for people to view? In many ways, this is still the case. If you look at the side bar on this website and you can find links to everything I’m doing.

So why did I sign up? Well, a couple reasons… One, with all of the web real estate being taken up these days, I wanted to make sure my username was actually mine. Two, Flavors.me may be higher ranked on search engines than this website. Someone looking for me could find my Flavors.me page before they find AdamWeitz.com. My Flavors.me page has a link to this website anyway so what’s the harm? Three, I really like that the pages is stripped of all the frills that I can put on this website. Again, it is just a splash page and it kind of appeals to the minimalist inside me. An added benefit is that I was not aware of the different sites I was on regularly until I compiled them in one spot. If anything the page is a reminder to me of what sites I actually use.

So there you have it, a pretty weak review of Flavors.me on my part. If you aren’t a web designer or don’t really want to spend the time developing a site of your own than I would recommend it. In fact, I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter list their Flavors.me site as their web page. It’s free (though they have a premium version out) and it’s very simple to set up. Pretty cool.
